We acknowledge their wonderful work and wish them well in their future endeavors. FOOTSCRAY EDGEWATER CRICKET CLUB JUNIOR DEVELOPMENT REPORT Our first season started back in June school holidays when some 40 U15 players attended Westgate Indoor Sports in Altona North to enable us to identify talent for the Dowling Shield Squad later in the year. We were fortunate enough to have help from Cricket Victoria Sports Development Program teacher and former Footscray player Heath Prithcard and a number of his students, who were all ex Western Spirit Dowling Squad representatives, being Michael Kelly, Michael Hill, Travis Dean, Matthew Gudde and Jesse Merlo. (Kelly, Hill and Dean all now current FECC players) Starting in the middle of July we had the first group of U16 players with approx 40 players attending 2 seperate sessions at Westgate Indoor where we had batting and bowling net sessions and also fielding drills. A number of FECC players - Mark Worthington, Brad Robertson, Mick Kelliher and Matthew Love - along with Western Spirit U18 coach Shane O'Brien assisted at these sessions. During August / September also at Westgate Indoor we had approx 30 U14 and 20 U12 players attend seperate net sessions. The U12 group solely being selected from the W.D.C.A. competition as a pilot for this season with a view to perhaps expanding to our other competitions attached to Region 9. During the U14 sessions FECC captain and Western Spirit U14 Coach Nathan Geisler was in attendance along with his Team Manager Blake Ivory with a view to identifying talent for his squad. Also helping was Nick Keating who is coach of the W.D.C.A. Russell Allen Shield U14 rep team. To wind up our sessions prior to selecting the Dowling Shield training squad, a further 2 net sessions were held for the U16 group at Merv Hughes Oval which gave the group an opportunity to show their skills outside. All in all some 130 players showed great enthusiasm during the sessions we had and some quality players have already been identified for the future. We have chosen a final group of 30 players to attend the Dowling Shield trials during October with a view to selecting the final 13 players by the end of the month. A special thanks must go to Matt Saunders, Greg Doyle and Paul Spiteri from Altona North C.C. who stepped in to help us out at short notice. Thanks also to Denis Selvidge (fitness), Paul Bambacci - Western Spirit Team Manager and Terry Stanley who were a tremendous help and support throughout the whole process. Thank you to the following FECC committee people for your support during the program: Jeff Russ Michelle Brohaska Ken Stone Vid Richardson Paul Sfetkidis Geoff Collinson Regards FECC Junior Development Coaches Jeff Dean Ivo Havard |
